I feel an almost constant judgement from the church, not so much for being a stay at home wife, but for not having (or planning to have) kids. (Being without a laptop kinda prevented that...) The hardest JOB I ever had was raising Kim and Mike! And compounding that job was the one that I had to do outside the home, and the colossal efforts I made to keep a marriage, child-raising and a job --- simultaneously.

So yes, it IS a job, being a wife, a parent, and a volunteer, and a homemaker, and a friend, and a Christian woman. Do you get paid? Oh HECK yes, you do! You receive unending love of your Father; you receive the love of your devoted husband; you have the incredible trust and love of your son; your friends value you above and beyond. You are treasured by those whom you touch with your blogs. ANYbody tries to tell you otherwise, has to come through me. I will set them straighter than --- well, nevermind. They will get the picture.

While I have been a working-outside-the-home parent, watching my two babies grow into amazing adults has been my greatest joy. Teething makes them more needy than we have enough patience for, sometimes.

You did good, though. You listened, you apologized, and Little Man felt your love, through and through. Even if he was being a stinker. Maybe, in SPITE of it. ;-)

Remember, too, that now he is on foot, able to get into more things, he's going to challenge you - at times, minute-by-minute - to be patient, firm and on task with him. When they say "terrible two's" they mean that age when a child begins to exert his will. Have faith, guide his will - never break it. And remember that teething brings out the worst in all === parents. :-D

So, I had a rough day, too. Until I received a call from a friend whose niece was killed in a car accident. My day faded in an instant... You, my young friend, are being a light in MY life today. So I ask for your prayers for the family who lost their 20yr old daughter today, and for her 17yr old cousin who must live with the fact her cousin is gone, maybe at her hands...I can't begin to imagine the grief of these two families.

I hope that Garrett's teeth come through soon, quickly, and as painlessly as possible. Until then, just remember that Oragel and Tylenol are your best friends. :-)

Blessings, Laura.

GBAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5505729308545794459.post-6638097407910261362012-04-17T23:15:17.468-04:002012-04-17T23:15:17.468-04:00Doncha just LOVE surprises?!?!?!? Strangely, I was hesitant to take the DC trip a few weeks ago, partly nervous about my right knee and left foot not playing nice with my chunky hiney, but also in part because I tend to be a homebody. I am SOOOO glad I kicked the hesitancy to the curb, because if you get a chance, you'll see just SOME of the pictures I took in my photo albums on FB. I took over 2000 pictures in 4 days, and the Washington Cathedral booted my spiritual butt back into proper alignment. (I need to write about that, once I get some time...LOL) Had I not gone, none of that would have happened. And I would have regretted it mightily.

I'm so glad you heard Him nudging you around the corner. :-)

GBAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5505729308545794459.post-2243335433679850212012-04-17T14:02:31.620-04:002012-04-17T14:02:31.620-04:00ladies lunch was about obedience today also. I find that I should probably be paying attention since I have gotten it unexpectedly from 2 places. today in lunch, Lori clayton talked about how our obedience points to Jesus and points others to jesus. so often we are focused on our blessings as the result of our obedience but really the reason we should be obedient is because we have a relationship with Jesus and we want others to see that and want the same thing.
Megan GalanAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5505729308545794459.post-71796413305021575572012-04-17T10:20:05.882-04:002012-04-17T10:20:05.882-04:00Your garden work is beautiful! It always feels go...Your garden work is beautiful! It always feels good to come home and see the work you put into your yard and know that you did it AND for the right reasons. Well done, Laura. :-)

Moving to a different church is difficult. When I left Community Church, it was both the easiest decision and the hardest decision of my life. I became a Christian there, I was baptized there along with my children, and it was there I began my bible studies. However, there were serious issues with the body that I could no longer support (the reasons that it was such an easy decision) which lead to my leaving.

I will say that when I left, I knew deep inside that it was THE right thing to do, though. Peace swooped down, God did His wonderful healing thing, and I was given time to pay attention as well as do some healing. When I found a new church home, I was in a much better spiritual place to receive its welcome than I would have been had I simply "changed pews." :-)

If you and your husband and Little Man are happy with your new church home, then God's peace will certainly settle in your hearts as well. I like the quote you found and shared because that is how I look at things with church as well. I believe that the church is the saints within the walls who move beyond the walls to do His work, so it is THOSE people whom I relate to regardless of the walls inside which they worship.

You can only imagine my frustration, being a woman who is gay, trying to find a church who looks beyond my orientation to see the woman whose heart is trying to find a church home. Not many around the Laporte area, but there is one good one in Elkhart...an hour away. It's hard...they are a good church, seeking a new pastor (theirs left shortly after I visited with them...she and her partner were amazing!!!), and they have SO much going for them! In time, we'll just have to see who God sends to them....

I always look forward to your posts, Laura. They always seem to minister to me, too. Just want you to know that. :-)

I hope you got to get a glimpse of the space shuttle Discovery as it flew over! I got to see it when it landed in Ft Worth (a few years before your time! LOL). I have pictures that I would like to find and post on FB sometime. I really wish I could have seen Discovery being moved today, but I will have to settle for the news video. :-)

Have a fabulous day! It is an absolute handicap when it prevents you from getting to the heart of things.

However, it is a process, working through disciplining yourself to Him. God is one patient Father, and He knows you young'ns sometimes need to do what you do until you discover He knows better. (That's what took ME so long to learn, anyhow.) However, my young friend, you are MUCH farther along in your faith journey than most young people of your generation, so take heart that you are on the right path.

By the way, I LOVE LOVE LOVE the projects you shared! A friend of mine and I found a chair on the side of the road once, and we took that thing apart, repaired it and refinished it -- and it turned into her desk chair for her bedroom. I haven't a clue what happened to that chair, but we were so excited about that chair that we took it to show her dad when he was in the nursing home, a few months before he passed. Be encouraged by your forays into these projects. Learning to give a discarded object new life again is a fun journey, indeed!

Well, I need to get to bed, too. There is a lot to do before this DC trip begins on Friday! :-) Blessings, Laura.

GBAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5505729308545794459.post-72740617704851276222012-03-20T01:03:48.203-04:002012-03-20T01:03:48.203-04:00My neighbor and her husband were actually deployed...My neighbor and her husband were actually deployed together and that's how they met.
